This is a log of a LIVE CHAT originating from the Green Room at Chicon, the 58th Annual World Science Fiction Convention.

We thank our guests for being game enough to brave a live chat under less than optimal circumstances. Our guests were typing on unfamiliar laptops with very small keyboards. (Click Here to see the chat area.)

Because of these several impediments, as well as other technical difficulties, you will find typos and occasional replication of text. In our humble opinion, typos show that the logs are of *live* chats, not canned interviews, and minimal editing of these logs has taken place.

I write the Laws of the Blood vampire series for Ace and have written Forever Knight tie-in novels. Also write Romance for Avon and suspense. I wrote for fanzines for 10 years and have short stories in DAW anthologies.

[Cybling] Folks, let's welcome Susan Sizemore to Chicon!
[Cybling] Susan, thanks for joining us tonight. Good to see you here in the flesh!
[EveningStar] welcome Susan
[Susan_Sizemore] HI!
[Cybling] Susan, last time I talked to you which was about...
[Cybling] halfway between Windycon and Chicon (the way I'm starting to tell time)...
[Cybling] you had your first Laws of the Blood book out.
[Susan_Sizemore] yep
[Cybling] Would you like to tell us a little about it?
[Susan_Sizemore] It'sa vampire series from Ace
[Susan_Sizemore] About vampire cops -- Enforcers. Each bookhas diferent characters
[Susan_Sizemore] and settings. It's the culture that's continuous
[Cybling] So, Susan, is the second book in the series available yet?
[Susan_Sizemore] In October. Called Partners. Set inSeattle
[Susan_Sizemore] Working on book 3. Set in Chicago
[Cybling] When I talked to you Susan, you had several story lines in mind...
[Cybling] and had discarded a couple.
[Cybling] How many books are planned for this series?
[Susan_Sizemore] Three for now. Hope to do more
[Cybling] Excellent.
[EveningStar] Susan, do any your books take up where the series ended? I'd love to see what happend.
[Susan_Sizemore] You mean my forever knight book? These books aren't related
[EveningStar] yes
[Cybling] Susan...you've just put out a new Science Fiction book as well. Can you tell us the title and who publishes it?
[Susan_Sizemore] Gates of Hell from Speculation Press -- in thedealers room
[Cybling] Gates of Hell...my...that sounds very horror. Can you tell us a little about it?
[Susan_Sizemore] Science fiction, actually. Spaceopera with a romace subplot
[Cybling] Wonderful. This is a growing sub-genre...the romance SF novel...
[Cybling] what got you interested in doing this book?
[Susan_Sizemore] yes. I'm a big Asaro fan
[Cybling] Ah...Catherine was just with us a little earlier today.
[Susan_Sizemore] It's a universe I've had in my head for two decades. Spec gave me the chance to write it
[Cybling] That's great...will there be sequels?
* Ryan chuckles. wrong button?
[Cybling] Sorry...susan will be right back with us...just connecting to the server.
[EveningStar] welcome back!
[Cybling] Welcome Back.
[Susan_Sizemore] am i on?
[Cybling] Susan...
* Ryan nods.
[Cybling] I had just asked if there will be a sequel..
[Cybling] to your SF novel?
[Susan_Sizemore] Hope so. Lots of people in the United Systems universe I'd liketo write about
[Cybling] Susan, in the last chat I was in with you... you mentioned that there are several levels to the Romance Genre (can't list them offhand).
[Cybling] Would this SF novel fit into any of those levels? Hot etc.
[Cybling] ?
[Susan_Sizemore] Ah. Well, there isone sex scene. Lots of sexual tension, but main story is saving the galaxy from a deliberatly
[Susan_Sizemore] spread plague
[Susan_Sizemore] It has pirates, and the aftermath of a war and drug dealers
[Cybling] Ah...a plague. Is the protagonist female, male?
[Susan_Sizemore] Both
[Susan_Sizemore] There's a hero and a heroine
[Susan_Sizemore] on different sides that have to work together
[Kimmo] For a second there it sounded like the protagonist was both, ie hermafrodite
[Susan_Sizemore] yeay
[Susan_Sizemore] yeah
[Kimmo] (but then again it's 2 am in Finland)
[Susan_Sizemore] lol
[Cybling] LOL, yes I was thinking that too. Oh...the protagonist is a hermaphrodite?
[Cybling] Or no.
[Cybling] Now I'm confused.
[Susan_Sizemore] no. The hero's a pirate. The heroine is a doctor
[Cybling] Okay...thanks for clearing that up Susan.
[Susan_Sizemore] a space pirate, that is...
[Kimmo] Sorry for confusing the issue. ;)
[Susan_Sizemore] Hello, Victoria!
[Cybling] Susan...what else do you have in the publishing pipeline right now that we could look for?
[victoriastrauss] Hi, Susan.
[Susan_Sizemore] Well, Partners will be available in October. And, ahem...The Price of Passion (I didn't give it that title) will be out in January
[Susan_Sizemore] The Price of Passion is obviously a hot romance
[Cybling] Yes. Susan, do you find it difficult switching between genres?
[Susan_Sizemore] No. It keeps me fresh
[Cybling] folks...we have a couple of mintes before we have to go to the Literary Scams panel...
[Ryan] whooo
[Cybling] and let Susan run away to go to some parties and meet some publishers tonight...
* Kimmo pouts enviously
[Cybling] are there any last questions about her horror series or SF novel?
[Kimmo] I'll just wish you all a good evening and a good con, I have to grab some sleep.
[Ryan] Kimmo: Not staying up till 3?
[Cybling] Goodnight Finland.
[Susan_Sizemore] 'night.
* EveningStar hands Kimmo a couple of toothpicks for his eyes
[EveningStar] thank you Susan
[Cybling] Clockwork orange it Kimmo.
[Kimmo] Yeah, on sunday. Sharon Lee & Steve Miller
[Ryan] Ah.
[Cybling] Susan...thanks so much for joining us this evening.
[Susan_Sizemore] Thanks for inviting me.
[Cybling] We'll have to have you out to Cybling in October!
[Susan_Sizemore] Yes,please
* EveningStar aplaudes
[Cybling] We'll have a little longer to talk about your Horror, SF, and of course your wonderful Romance books.
* Cybling applauds
[Kimmo] G'night folks. Susan, hope the books do well.
* Kimmo waves
[EveningStar] night Kimmo
[Susan_Sizemore] Well, Partners is set in Seattle, and involves a human vampire hunter
[Susan_Sizemore] working with a vampire enforcer to find a missing vampire kid.
[Susan_Sizemore] human wants to kill kid, enforcer wants to help him.
[EveningStar] It sounds great!
[Susan_Sizemore] they have to fight a cult run by a demon and a sorcerer to get the kid
[Cybling] Sounds more intense than the first book in the series Susan!
[Susan_Sizemore] anyone seen from dusk til dawn?
[EveningStar] yes
[Cybling] Yep. Loved it.
[Susan_Sizemore] think of the george clooney character 5 years up the road for th hero
[Cybling] Okay...the human or the vampire hero?
[Susan_Sizemore] the human
[Cybling] And the vampire?
[Susan_Sizemore] vampire is sort of like Willow if she were a vampire cop
[Susan_Sizemore] great cover by dave dorman
[Cybling] Wonderful.
[Cybling] Okay...Susan, thanks So much for joining us this evening.
[Cybling] Have fun at the con and don't get stuck in any lines!
